I established Focus On Gardens in 2004 and I am located in the bayside suburb of Manly Brisbane.
My father inspired my love of gardening. He had a huge vegetable garden where he used organic fertilisers and a rotary hoe to till the soil (one of my brothers now has the rotary hoe). He grew the tastiest sweet corn, biggest cabbages, flavoursome tomatoes, beans and peas along with other seasonal vegetables. Our citrus, peach and apple trees were always laden with fruit in the summer months and our chooks provided manure for the soil and eggs for us. The flowers from ornamental shrubs mum planted and the vegetables my father grew always attracted large bumble bees to our large corner block that was located in the market garden area of South Auckland, New Zealand.
I have a special interest in soil and a great love of plants. It is all about the soil to get the best from any plant.
I love to share my passion for growing vegetables and fruit organically with children of all ages at St Mary MacKillop and St Martins Primary Schools. On my Schools page, I share the experiences the children of my two schools are enjoying.
